Belgium and Egypt drew 1–1 at Seattle Stadium in their Group G opener. Emam Ashour fired Egypt ahead in the 19th minute with an assist from Mohamed Salah, but substitute Romelu Lukaku forced Mohamed Hany into an own goal just 22 seconds after coming on in the 66th minute to rescue a point for Rudi Garcia's side.

Belgium finished with 54% possession, 15 shots and three on target to Egypt's 14 and three in front of 66,775 fans. Marwan Ateya and Ahmed Abou El Fotouh were booked for Egypt and Timothy Castagne and Maxim De Cuyper for Belgium in a match that remained level at half-time after Ashour's early strike.

Both teams sit on one point in Group G ahead of Monday's late fixtures between IR Iran and New Zealand and Belgium's meeting with Iran in Los Angeles on 21 June. Egypt face New Zealand in Vancouver on 22 June.
