Scotland defeated Haiti 1โ€“0 at Boston Stadium in their first World Cup appearance since 1998. John McGinn bundled home in the 28th minute after Che Adams' effort was blocked and the ball deflected past Johny Placide, ending a 36-year wait for a Scottish victory at the finals.

Haiti matched Scotland for shots on target and created chances through Frantzdy Pierrot, but Angus Gunn and his defence held firm. McGinn was named Michelob Ultra Superior Player of the Match as Steve Clarke's side climbed to the top of Group C on three points.

Scotland next face Morocco in Foxborough on 19 June, while Haiti meet Brazil in Philadelphia on the same day. Brazil's 1โ€“1 draw with Morocco earlier on Saturday means Group C is tightly poised after matchday one.
