Norway defeated Iraq 4–1 at Boston Stadium in their first World Cup match since 1998. Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 29th minute from David Møller Wolfe's cross, but Ayman Hussein briefly levelled with a header in the 39th minute before Haaland pounced on a defensive mix-up to restore Norway's lead before half-time.

Substitute Leo Østigård headed in from Martin Ødegaard's corner in the 76th minute and Hussein turned Haaland's late header into his own net in the sixth minute of stoppage time. Haaland was named Michelob Ultra Superior Player of the Match as Norway finished with 61% possession, 12 shots and five on target in front of 63,106 fans.

Norway join France on three points at the top of Group I on goal difference. Ståle Solbakken's side face Senegal in New Jersey on 22 June, while Iraq meet France in Philadelphia on the same day.
