Morocco eliminated the Netherlands 3–2 on penalties after a 1–1 draw following extra time at Estadio BBVA in Guadalupe. Cody Gakpo put the Oranje ahead on 72 minutes after Wout Weghorst's header set up Crysencio Summerville, but Issa Diop headed in Chemsdine Talbi's cross in the first minute of stoppage time to force additional time.

Yassine Bounou saved from Teun Koopmeiners' opener in the shoot-out before misses from Justin Kluivert and Quinten Timber, and Ismael Saibari converted the winning kick. Morocco held 70% possession and led 11–6 in shots across 120 minutes in front of 51,243 fans. Diop was named Superior Player of the Match.

Morocco advance to the round of 16 and will face co-hosts Canada in Houston — the Atlas Lions' third consecutive World Cup knockout win via penalties. The Netherlands are eliminated on spot-kicks for the third straight tournament, following exits against Argentina in 2022 and 2014.
