Saudi Arabia and Uruguay drew 1–1 at Miami Stadium in their Group H opener. Abdulelah Al Amri turned in the rebound after Fernando Muslera had parried Mohamed Kanno's header in the 41st minute, but Marcelo Bielsa's side dominated the second half and Maxi Araújo steered home an equaliser in the 80th minute after Federico Viñas's header was pushed into his path.
Mohammed Al Owais made a string of saves to keep Saudi Arabia in front until the late leveller, including tipping Manuel Ugarte's shot against the post on the hour. Uruguay finished with 67% possession and 27 shots to Saudi Arabia's seven in front of 62,764 fans, with Al Amri booked in the first half as all four Group H teams shared the points after matchday one.
Uruguay face Cabo Verde in Miami on 21 June while Saudi Arabia meet Spain in Atlanta on the same day. Both sides will feel they can still progress from a group that opened with two goalless or one-goal draws involving the section's two favourites.
