Spain beat Austria 3–0 at Los Angeles Stadium as Mikel Oyarzabal struck twice and Pedro Porro headed in his first international goal. Marc Cucurella set up both Oyarzabal finishes — a first-time turn on 36 minutes and a late slide past Alexander Schlager on 89 minutes — while Álex Baena's cross found Porro for the second goal on 66 minutes as Luis de la Fuente's side booked a round-of-16 tie against either Portugal or Croatia.

La Roja led 1–0 at half-time and finished with 65% possession, 21 shots and 10 on target to Austria's five attempts and none on goal in front of 70,492 fans. Lamine Yamal was named Michelob Ultra Superior Player of the Match as Spain recorded a fifth successive clean sheet at the tournament. Stefan Posch and Aymeric Laporte were booked in the closing stages.

Spain advance to the round of 16 and will face the winner of Thursday night's Portugal–Croatia tie in Dallas on Monday. Austria bow out in the round of 32 despite reaching the knockout stage for the first time since 1954, unable to trouble a Spain side that has now gone 450 minutes without conceding at this World Cup.
