Vargas and Manzambi Send Switzerland Top of Group B

Switzerland beat Canada 2–1 at BC Place Vancouver to win Group B and advance to the round of 32 as section winners. Rubén Vargas swept in at the far post 46 seconds into the second half after Johan Manzambi's cross evaded the penalty area, and Manzambi doubled the lead nine minutes later when Breel Embolo's lay-off allowed him to fire low through Maxime Crépeau's grasp.

Promise David pulled one back for the co-hosts on 76 minutes after Nathan Saliba's pass, but Jesse Marsch's side could not find an equaliser despite finishing with 13 shots and seven on target to Switzerland's six and four in front of 52,497 fans. Granit Xhaka and Cyle Larin were booked on 32 minutes and Liam Millar saw yellow late on as Canada finished with four points.

Switzerland top Group B on seven points, two clear of Canada in second. Murat Yakin's side will face the third-placed team from Groups E, F, G, I or J in the round of 32, while Canada advance as runners-up and meet the second-placed team from Group A.
