Colombia defeated Uzbekistan 3–1 at Mexico City Stadium in their first World Cup match since 2018. Daniel Muñoz finished Luis Díaz's clipped pass in the 40th minute, Abbosbek Fayzullaev headed in Uzbekistan's first-ever men's World Cup goal on the hour, and Díaz restored Colombia's lead five minutes later from Gustavo Puerta's through ball.

Jaminton Campaz headed in Juan Hernández's cross in the ninth minute of stoppage time to settle a sold-out 80,824 crowd. Díaz was named Michelob Ultra Superior Player of the Match as Colombia finished with 61% possession, 15 shots and four on target to move top of Group K.

Colombia lead Group K on three points. Néstor Lorenzo's side face DR Congo in Guadalajara on 23 June, while Fabio Cannavaro's Uzbekistan meet Portugal in Houston on the same day.
