Belgium beat Senegal 3–2 after extra time at Seattle Stadium in one of the greatest World Cup comebacks. Habib Diarra and Ismaila Sarr put the Lions of Teranga 2–0 ahead through goals on 25 and 51 minutes, but substitute Romelu Lukaku flicked in Thomas Meunier's cross on 86 minutes and captain Youri Tielemans headed Leandro Trossard's cross to level in the 89th minute and force extra time.

Senegal hit the woodwork twice in the first half and led 0–1 at the interval before Sarr doubled the advantage early in the second half. Belgium finished with 52% possession, 19 shots and five on target to Senegal's 19 and five in front of 66,925 fans. Tielemans converted a VAR-awarded penalty in the fifth minute of stoppage time in extra time — the latest winning goal in World Cup history — and was named Michelob Ultra Superior Player of the Match. Brandon Mechele and Lamine Camara were booked.

Belgium advance to the round of 16 and will face the United States in Seattle on Monday — the same venue where both sides won their last-32 ties. Senegal are eliminated despite Ismaila Sarr moving to five World Cup goals, extending a run of heartbreak after their Africa Cup of Nations title was stripped earlier in 2026.
