Norway beat Brazil 2–1 at New York New Jersey Stadium to reach the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time in their history. Erling Haaland headed in Andreas Schjelderup's cross on 79 minutes and drilled a low shot past Alisson in the 90th minute, moving level with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé on seven tournament goals in front of 80,663 fans.
Brazil were wasteful throughout — Bruno Guimarães had a 14th-minute penalty saved by Ørjan Nyland after a VAR review, Endrick poked a one-on-one wide on 59 minutes, and Vinícius Júnior was denied by the Norway goalkeeper. Neymar, on as a substitute, converted a stoppage-time penalty on 90+10 minutes after Leo Østigård was penalised for an elbow on Casemiro, but it proved only a consolation as Norway finished with 66% possession.
Norway advance to face England in Miami on Saturday — Haaland against Kane in a Scandinavian–British quarter-final neither nation has reached in the men's game. Brazil exit at the round of 16 for the first time since 1990, ending their run of eight consecutive World Cup quarter-final appearances.
