Mexico beat Czechia 3–0 at Mexico City Stadium to finish Group A with a perfect nine points and eliminate Miroslav Koubek's side. A goalless first half gave way to a decisive burst after the break as Mateo Chávez swept Luis Romo's pass into the bottom-left corner on 55 minutes, Julián Quiñones prodded home from close range six minutes later after Jorge Sánchez's effort rebounded into his path, and substitute Álvaro Fidalgo curled into the top-left corner in second-half stoppage time after Roberto Alvarado's lay-off.

Javier Aguirre rotated heavily with qualification already secured, handing 17-year-old Gilberto Mora a start and introducing Guillermo Ochoa for the final 12 minutes as the veteran goalkeeper became the oldest Mexican to appear at a World Cup at 40 years and 346 days. Mexico finished with 48% possession, 11 shots and five on target to Czechia's 13 and one in front of 80,824 fans. Edson Álvarez was booked on 63 minutes as El Tri kept a third consecutive clean sheet in the competition.

Mexico top Group A on nine points and will face a third-placed finisher in the round of 32, with Scotland currently in that bracket. Czechia finish bottom on one point after a campaign that never recovered from two defeats in their opening games, while South Africa's simultaneous win over Korea Republic confirmed Bafana Bafana's place in the last 32.
