Mexico defeated South Korea 1–0 at Guadalajara Stadium to become the first nation to secure a place in the World Cup round of 32. Luis Romo tapped in on 50 minutes after goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu spilled Raúl Jiménez's header following a collision with Lee Gi-hyuk, breaking a goalless first half in a tight Group A contest.

Raúl Rangel preserved the clean sheet with a remarkable double save to deny Cho Gue-sung and Yang Hyun-jun in the 87th minute. Romo was named Michelob Ultra Superior Player of the Match as Mexico finished with 42% possession, eight shots and four on target in front of 45,522 fans.

Mexico lead Group A on six points and have already qualified for the knockouts. Korea Republic remain on three points and must beat South Africa in Monterrey on 24 June, while Mexico close the group against Czechia in Mexico City on the same evening.
